During early times, Larne Lough was known as "Aldfreck's Fjord", Aldfreck being one of the early Viking invaders. Larne Lough Nurseries is situated on an ancient historical route along the North Antrim coast having seen visits from early Irish missionary monks, Vikings, Anglo Norman invaders and traders from the British Isles, Europe and far beyond over the centuries. It is in the townland of Drumnadreagh, which means "land of the heavy clay"

Magheramourne (ancient name Maichiermorne) means Morna's Plain, or Land of Morna. Morna may have been an early Irish Princess. It justifiably claims to be the birthplace of St. Comgall in 517. He was the son of Setna(father) and Brigg (mother) who were pictish warriors. St. Comgall was to become a missionary monk, one of our best loved saints and one of those responsible for Christian learning being taken back to Europe. Learning which had been lost during the dark ages.

The wealth of ancient history and the natural beauty of the area has long served as inspiration to the management of Larne Lough Nurseries as they have built their business with integrity and respect for the local environment.
